Reissued August 1, 1989
It is within the Executive Director's authority and responsibility to establish certain minimum professional standards of employee appearance within paid working hours in the performance of AACS job functions.
In his judgment, jeans, sandals, T-shirts, and unkempt hair or poor hygiene are generally unprofessional in one's appearance before the public and therefore unacceptable for AACS employees while on the job in the performance of their paid duties. All employees are expected to project a professional image in dress, appearance and performance.
While not projecting specific guidelines for proper professional appearance, those items in the paragraph above are being cited as clearly unacceptable. Each of our staff can and shall be appropriately attentive to his or her professional appearance before the public.
The AACS does not require formal dress; suits and ties, for example are not required. But the AACS does expect its employees to look and be professional while on the job, even if an appropriate casual mode of dress is chosen by the employee.
Employees can expect to be cited for unacceptable dress or blatantly unprofessional appearance prescribed in Section 6.13 of the Personnel Manual.
I am thanking each employee in advance for his or her understanding for and cooperation with this directive. The professional image we project individually is the heart and soul of the image perceived by the public at-large for the Audubon Area Community Services.
