Head Start community-based staff work directly with Head Start children and families in the AACS/Head Start Centers. Therefore, Head Start community-based staff face two periods when their operations are closed: the Christmas-New Year holiday season and so-called "Spring Break" (KEA Week).
In order to continue staff in a pay status for these "breaks," community-based Head Start staff will take accrued Annual Leave during the Christmas and Spring Breaks when children are not attending class and Center operations are interrupted.
Should severe weather conditions persist during the winter months, the AACS/Head Start will not provide a Spring Break in order to make up lost days of classroom operation.
Head Start community-based staff are encouraged, and directed to the extent possible, to accrue and save their Annual Leave days for use during these "break" periods. This is intended solely to continue all Head Start employees' pay continuously through these periods of temporary absence from work.
