Re: Policy Regarding Tardiness and Absenteeism

The following policy regarding employee tardiness and absenteeism shall be employed:

When it is necessary for a person to be late or absent from his/her assigned work station, he/she shall notify his/her immediate supervisor of his/her whereabouts and approximate time of his/her return to work.

Failure to notify his/her supervisor may result in the employee being in a non-pay status unless he/she provides an acceptable reason why this was not done within one hour of the time he/she was due to appear on the job. An employee's absence from work for three consecutive days without notification is considered a resignation unless circumstances are such that it is impossible to give notice.

The above policy applies to all absences, including sick leave. Succinctly stated, you must notify your immediate supervisor by 9:00 a.m., any morning you will be absent from work. The same one hour reporting period will apply to afternoon tardiness or absenteeism.

Never take leave without approval, or at least a notification to your supervisor in case of illness. For your protection, please obtain approval for all leave, except unexpected sick-related leave, on the Request for Leave form from your supervisor in advance of the proposed leave. With the case of illness, please submit a Request for Leave for the sick leave to your supervisor upon your return to work. Attach all leave requests to your time sheets.

Any other type of notification will not be deemed proper notice since the stated policy is quite clear - "he/she shall notify his/her immediate supervisor."
