Transportation Plan

The plan will contain strategies for most effective use of:

Bus Routes

Routes are developed to assure efficient use of buses.
Routes are designed to provide maximum safety while loading and unloading children.

Bus Equipment

Buses are of proper design and markings.
Buses are inspected on a regular basis by the local authority.
Buses are inspected by each driver prior to use every day.
Buses are kept clean and in proper running condition.
A written maintenance schedule is established and followed.
Buses display valid inspection stickers and license plates.
Buses are equiped with appropriate child restraint systems.

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to volunteer as monitors.
Parents receive a copy of bus rules prior to children being transported.
Parents receive training in bus safety focusing on: evacuations and emergency procedures, safe riding practices, danger zones, and parent responsibilities.
Parents are provided training on release of children procedures.

Drivers

Staff receive training on accident procedures including evacuations.
Staff receive training on first aid and CPR.
Staff receive training on alcohol and drug abuse awareness.
Staff receive training on transporting diasabled passengers.
Staff receive training on release of children procedure.
A system is established for drug testing, physical exams, satisfactory completion of required trainings.
Staff receive training on record keeping.
A personnel system is established to meet U.S. Dept of Transportation guidelines.

Children's Records

On the bus: Children's Name, address, phone number, Parent's name, emergency contact numbers.
At the office: Child's name, Driver's name, Bus number, Attendence record, pick-up/drop off time.

Other Program Transportation (where applicable)

Procedures for tranporting children in non-bus vehicles.
Safety procedures for non-buses.
Children's records on non-bus transportation.
Non-bus inspection and maintenance.
